Abstract

GORROTXATEGI GORROTXATEGI, P et al. Meeting of the Spanish Association of Primary Care Paediatrics within the annual congress of the Spanish Association of Pediatrics. Analysis of scientific presentations. Rev Pediatr Aten Primaria [online]. 2017, vol.19, n.76, pp.321-328. ISSN 1139-7632.

Objective:

to analyse the works presented by primary care paediatricians at the congress of the Spanish Association of Pediatrics (AEP) in the sections of Outpatient Paediatrics and Primary Care Paediatrics before and after the inclusion of the Meeting of the Spanish Association of Primary Care Paediatrics (AEPap) in that congress.

Methods:

review of the abstract books of the congresses of the Spanish Association of Pediatrics. We analysed the works presented in the Outpatient Paediatrics and Primary Care Paediatrics sections. In the statistical analysis, comparisons of frequencies were made by calculating odds ratios with their respective 95% confidence intervals and by means of the χ2 test (level of significance, P < .05).

Results:

during the period when the AEPap held its meeting outside the AEP congress, the percentage of works presented in the Outpatient Paediatrics and Primary Care sections of the AEP congress in which primary care paediatricians were involved was of approximately 50%; this percentage subsequently rose to 70%. When we compared the participation of primary care paediatricians in the 2012 and 2016 AEP congresses, we found that in 2012 the works presented in the Outpatient and Primary Care Paediatrics sections in 2012 amounted to 4% of the total works presented in the congress (38/896; 95 CI: 3 to 6), while in 2016 it amounted to 7% of the total (84/1138; 95 CI: 6 to 9). The odds ratio for the 2016 versus 2012 comparison was 1.80 (95 CI: 1.21 to 2.67; P = .006).

Conclusions:

the participation of primary care paediatricians in the AEP congress has increased since the AEPap started participating in it.
