Resumen

TEJADA DOMINGUEZ, F.J  y  RUIZ DOMINGUEZ, M.R.. Oral mucositis: decisions regarding the oral care of patients under radiotherapy and chemotherapy based on evidence. Enferm. glob. [online]. 2010, n.18. ISSN 1695-6141.

The purpose of this study was to identify the existing scientific evidence in the literature indexed in different databases with respect to the preventive interventions and from specific treatment of the oral mucositis induced by the antineoplastic treatments, like radiotherapy and chemotherapy. In order to secure answers that clarify this problem a search in the following databases was carried out: Medline-PubMed, Cochrane Library Plus, Cuiden, Scielo, Biblioteca Virtual de Salud, in addition to the repertoire of the Doyma publishing house. The main reason that motivated the search was to evaluate the effectiveness of prophylactic agents and / or treatments that reduce the severity of oral mucositis in patients receiving treatment for cancer, compared with other interventions potentially active, placebo or no treatment. The results demonstrate that many of the found interventions of treatment have little evidence that sustains their effectiveness, whereas others have a small amount of evidence that suggests it can be effective. We complete the revision detailing a series of recommendations as protocol on oral care based on opinions of clinical experts in the matter.
