Abstract
GONZALEZ CHORDA, V.M. and MACIA SOLER, M.L.. Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG) in Spanish General Hospitals: variability in average of lenght of stay and average of cost per case. Enferm. glob. [online]. 2011, vol.10, n.24. ISSN 1695-6141. https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/S1695-61412011000400011.
Objective: DRG system groups patients with similar clinical characteristics and resource consumption. The main objective of this study is to examine the intra- and inter-DRG variability in average of length of stay and average of cost per case in general hospitals of the Spanish National Health System. Methodology: A descriptive, retrospective, transversal, with inferential component study has been carried out on the management reports of 2009, about 46 general hospitals of the Spanish National Health System, comparing the data with those reported by the State Standard of DRG in 2008 (AP-DRG V23). The study has been carried out both for all hospitals and by regional health services. Results: The descriptive study shows the existence of intra and inter-GRD variability, both for all hospitals, such as regional health services. Could not be demonstrated statistically the existence of intra-DRG variability, both for all hospitals, such regional health service. Conclusions: It should further study the variability of inter and intra-GRD variability and factors affecting it. This system is not without variability, but to control should consider initiatives focused on DRGs for the study, control and prioritize decision making in both clinically and in management.
