Resumen
YLLERA SANZ, Carolina. Do we meet our duties regarding Living Wills?. Rev. Bioética y Derecho [online]. 2014, n.32, pp.82-94. ISSN 1886-5887. https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/S1886-58872014000300008.
Objective: To examine the knowledge about Living Wills among physicians and nursing staff in the emergency department. Method: Cross-sectional study performed between february and june 2012 in a tertiary hospital in Catalonia. All physicians and nursing permanent staff from the emergency department were included. The probabilistic not intentional sampling has been done in strict terms. 127 survey were filled. Regarding the statistic analysis for the univariate analysis, quantitative variables were represented by the mean and standard desviation, while the qualitative variables were expressed in percentages. In the bivariate analysis, for the joint study of two qualitative variables, were performed independence tests using proportion comparison and Fisher's exact test. Results: It is shown that professional staff who has been trained on the subject knows much more the current legislation and are aware of the existence of a record of Living Wills and its availability online. More important is the fact that these professionals have consulted the records much more than those who have not received any trainee. Conclusions: More information and train plans for the professional staff and general population are needed.
