Abstract

GONZALEZ-VELEZ, Ana-Cristina. Conscientious Objection, bioethics and human rights: A perspective from Colombia. Rev. Bioética y Derecho [online]. 2018, n.42, pp.105-126. ISSN 1886-5887.

This article discusses the phenomenon of conscientious objection, and some features of its practice, using data recently collected in a KAP (Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices) study conducted in Bogotá (Global Doctors for Choice, 2015). Using the figures, the author discusses, from a bioethical perspective, the idea of conscientious and its centrality for both, the provision and denial of services, emphasizing the first one, and addressing different thesis that have been developed in the bioethics field. Finally, the article proposes the use of the standards developed by the Colombian Constitutional Court in different rulings in relation to conscientious objection as an ethical solution compatible with the social contract theory.

Keywords : abortion; human rights; bioethics; conscientious objection; barriers to abortion services.
