Early and repeated contact with peer counsellors are associated with an increase in breastfeeeding exclusivity and duration. Women who receive peer counselor are more likely to initiate breastfeeding than those who don´t receive it. Conclusions: Peer counselling is safe and effective as a model of care and breastfeeding follow alternative.
