Introduction:

Diabetes mellitus was the second cause of mortality in Mexico in 2015, some causes of the problem are poor lifestyles and low level knowledge of the disease.

Method:

observational, transversal and descriptive study, n = 106, evaluating lifestyles, level of knowledge and glycated hemoglobin.

Results:

the level of knowledge as well as the profile promoter of health is regular for both sexes. HbA1c is related to the health profile r = .271, but not to the level of knowledge. Patients with DM2 have HbA1c  = 8.96, patients with DM2 and chronic comorbidities have HbA1c  =7.55.

Conclusions:

the interventions proposed to the health unit should have a focus on the promotion of healthy lifestyles and not necessarily improve the knowledge of the disease.
