Total laryngectomy causes loss of oral communication and distortion of self-image, which contributes to a strong emotional disturbance. Effective rehabilitation is necessary, considering all aspects related to the health-disease process from before surgery such as recovery of spoken language, social aspects and their psychological characteristics, which are vital for the proper integral management of the patient. For this reason, the objective of this clinical case was to emphasize the importance of comprehensive nursing care in the laringuectomized patient. Without these, an optimum satisfaction could not be obtained on the part of the patient in his disease process. Another objective to be underlined was to promote independence and self-care on the part of the affected person once their psychological and social problems have been solved. Thus, this article developed an Individualized Care Plan (ICP) that focused on the diagnoses of: Low situational self-esteem; Bodily Image Disorder and Impairment of verbal communication. Without the development of these diagnoses, the patient's postoperative recovery process would not have been possible, since his main complications were not physical but psychosocial.
