Dear readers, authors and referees,

During these last four years, under the leadership of its Director, Dr. Luis Naval, the Revista de Cirugía Oral y Maxilofacial (RECOM) has notably widened its influence in our speciality, inside and outside our frontiers. Today it is a reference concerning scientific diffusion and a preferential option for a vast majority of authors and readers of our speciality among the Spanish native speakers, and the main scientific diffusion platform for the Spanish Society of Oral and Maxillofacial and Head and Neck Surgery (Sociedad Española de Cirugía Oral y Maxilofacial y de Cabeza y Cuello -SECOMCyC) which, with its actual President Dr. José Luis López-Cedrún, and during the incoming years with Dr. Florencio Monje, constitutes a bastion for the promotion and defense of our speciality.

Dr. Luis Naval has brilliantly commanded this last period, to which is added his active collaboration four years before as Assistant Director to Dr. José Ignacio Salmerón, time for which the journal gave a very important qualitative jump by the inclusion in one of the two most prestigious international multidisciplinary databases, Scopus, with the subsequent inclusion in Scimago Journal Rank (SJR). Actually it is included in the forth quartile (Q4) of categories "oral surgery", "otorhinolaryngology" and "surgery", thus the possibility of improvement is maximum.

Although the RECOM is present in the Web of Science (WOS) as a journal indexed by Scielo, it does not belong to Science Citation Index (SCI), which gives entry to the ranking of Journal Citation Report (JCR), the reference value for the evaluation of journals and investigators worldwide. The fact that there is an almost lacking representation of Spanish journals in the category of "Dentistry, Oral Surgery & Medicine" makes us believe that it is feasible to join JCR in the medium term, as far as WOS is always interested in widening the scope of less represented areas and regions.

The highest objectives, including joining Medline/PubMed are difficult to obtain, as we have checked along all the years of journal´s life, but they must be an inalienable objective for RECOM in the medium and long term. The path is long and tedious while the concurrence of non strictly scientific factors have played a relevant role and as will do in the future, but at least in a scientific view, which is under our scope, we have to make all the effort. Under this active role, with the collaboration of authors (sending high quality manuscripts), referees (making reports with complete analysis and rigorous in demanding authors a strict adjustment to scientific methodology), associate editors (selecting best reviewers in the specific areas and increasing the quality criteria for eligibility of manuscripts), and also from the direction, together with our new trip partner the editorial Inspira Network, we will pass steps in the consecution of these objectives.

I do not want to finish without thanking Dr. Luis Naval for his teaching during these last years, his dedication to the journal and his personal trust in me for continuing with this exciting enterprise. Of course, I will continue "disturbing" him to save the obstacles that may appear in the way. Also it is of justice to mention all historical directors of the journal (from its beginning as Revista Iberoamericana de Cirugía Maxilofacial up to date) for their huge contribution to the consolidation and prestige of RECOM, doctors Francisco Alarcón, Francisco Javier Díaz González, Juan José Verdaguer, Rafael Martín Granizo, José Igancio Salmerón and Luis Naval Gías. Congratulations and thank you all for your legacy.

We will continue working.
