West LM, Cordina M, Cunningham S. Clinical pharmacist evaluation of medication inappropriateness in the emergency department of a teaching hospital in Malta. Pharmacy Practice 2012; 10(4):181-187. doi: 10.4321/s1886-36552012000400001
The following scoring details of the ‘Medication Appropriateness Index’ (MAI) originated by Hanlon, Schmader and their colleagues1,2,3,4,5,6 were unintentionally inverted erroneously in our article7:
“Are the directions practical?” was reported as a weight of 2 when it should have been 1, and
“Are there clinically significant drug-disease/condition interactions?” was reported as a weight of 1 when it should have been 2.
This error was reported 3 times in the ‘Methods’ section, two of which are in Table 1.
Whilst this was erroneously reported, the scoring was applied correctly and the study was conducted in accordance with the original publications by MAI originators.1,2,3 Therefore, this error does not impact, in any way, the reported results or outcome of the paper.7
