ESTEVEZ, Ana    CALVETE, Esther. Cognitive Schemata in people suffering from pathological gambling and their relationships with parenting. []. , 18, 1, pp.23-43. ISSN 2174-0550.

This study examines whether people suffering from pathological gambling have maladaptive cognitive schemata and whether their parents provided them with negative parenting during their childhood. A sample of 167 subjects involved in pathological gambling (77.2 percent of them were men and 22.8 percent were women) and a control sample of 167 subjects that were not involved in pathological gambling (71.1% men and 28.9% women) completed measures of maladaptive cognitive schemata and parenting. The results indicated that people involved in pathological gambling scored higher on several maladaptive schemata, particularly on the domains of Disconnection and Rejection, and Impaired Autonomy. In addition, findings indicated differences in parenting during childhood, particularly in relation to the father role. Finally, some findings are discussed regarding the way parenting is associated with the development of maladaptive schemata.
