The study examined the causes of absenteeism among the nursing staff of a public hospital. This is a quantitative descriptive study, conducted by the bank records of absenteeism institution investigated, analyzed using the SPSS software. The nighttime prevailed in the records. We identified 405 diseases associated with sickness, with the highest incidence of diseases of the digestive tract, musculoskeletal, ophthalmologic and mental. There was an association between function and clearance time, greater willingness of nursing technicians. The relationship between absenteeism profile of workers, working conditions and the object was identified.
