PENA MOLINERO, Celia et al. Cuidados de enfermería en la mucositis del paciente oncológico: revisión de evidencias. []. , 11, 2. ISSN 1988-348X.

Introduction: Oral mucositis is a frequent and often debilitating complication of cancer treatment. It affects the quality of life of the patient. Objective: to analyze the different therapeutic tools that have been shown to be useful in the prevention or treatment of oral mucositis in cancer patients. Methodology: A literature review protocol was followed to find the best available evidence. Conclusions: It is important to make a correct assessment of the degree of mucositis that presents the patient with a recognized scale, such as the WHO. The use of oral hygiene protocols as prevention is suggested. Once mucositis has been established, cryotherapy and mouthwashes of benzidine and 0.2% morphine have proved their efficacy. Chlorhexidine mouthwashes are contraindicated in patients with head and neck cancer who undergo radiotherapy, and iseganan, sucralfate, and misoprostol rinses.
