Abstract

PEREIRA, E.S.; MIZUBUTI, I.Y.; CAVALCANTE, M.A.B.  and  CLEMENTINO, R.H.. Ingestive behavior of steers fed with hay of different particle sizes. Arch. zootec. [online]. 2009, vol.58, n.222, pp.293-296. ISSN 1885-4494.

It was evaluated the effect of particle sizes of Tifton 85 hay (5, 7, 10 mm and whole) in the diet of Holstein steers, on the feeding efficiency, rumination efficiency, feeding time (TAL), rumination time (TRU), total mastication time (TMT), number of ruminal bolus, time of mericics mastications per ruminal bolus and number of mastications per ruminal bolus. It was used a 4 x 4 Latin square experimental design, with four steers and four periods. The ingestive behavior of the animals was influenced by dietetic particle sizes only for the characteristics: TAL, TRU and TMT.

Keywords : Tifton 85 grass; Intake; Effective fiber; Holstein steers.
