Abstract

GOMEZ-ESTEBAN, Rosa. Operative group therapy: an alternative paradigm for the clinical practice with subjects, groups, and mental health institutions?. Rev. Asoc. Esp. Neuropsiq. [online]. 2022, vol.42, n.142, pp.109-136.  Epub Feb 20, 2023. ISSN 2340-2733.  https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/s0211-57352022000200007.

The predominant biological paradigm has led to a crisis both of psychopathology (in the sense that it does not take into account subjectivity) and of diagnostic systems (DSM). The Operative Group Therapy (OGT) is proposed as an alternative to this biomedical paradigm, since it tends to overmedicate psychic suffering. In contrast, OGT, based on the biopsychosocial paradigm, considers subjectivity in psychopathology and thinks about subjective psychopathology in a more complex way. This model, in our opinion, should be taken into account in the training of mental health professionals for its potential to improve clinical practice.

Keywords : operative group therapy; group psychopathology; group psychoanalytic psychotherapies; therapeutic bond; therapeutic family and multi-family groups.
