VALES MONTERO, Marta et al. Vitamin A deficiency after gastric bypass: case report and review of the literature. Nutr. Hosp. [online]. 2016, vol.33, n.4, pp.1008-1011. ISSN 1699-5198. https://dx.doi.org/10.20960/nh.404.
Vitamin A deficiency is uncommon in developed countries. Bariatric surgery emerges a an important risk factor for vitamin A deficiency and some clinical cases have been described, specially associated with malabsorptive surgical techniques, such as biliopancreatic diversion. In this paper we report a clinical case of a patient who developed blindness, ophthalmological disease and cutaneous alterations secondary to vitamin A deficiency after gastric bypass. A review of other publications and recommendations on this important subject is also included.
