Abstract
SOLANO MENDOZA, P.; GARCIA GARCIA, V. and BASCONES MARTINEZ, A.. Is there enough evidence to consider tobacco and alcohol as the main risk factors in tongue cancer?. Av Odontoestomatol [online]. 2010, vol.26, n.1, pp.31-44. ISSN 2340-3152.
For the present paper, we have made a revision through the literature with the objective to clarify some questions about the influence that tobacco and alcohol can have as risk factors on tongue cancer. We will focus on the aetiology, incidence, location, geographic distribution, prevalence, prognosis and survival of the disease, paying special attention to prevention. We will also review the measures that should be taken to improve patient life quality and the early diagnose. In this way prognoses will be improved making it easier for the elimination of the disease. Finally we conclude that tobacco and alcohol are the main risk factors for tongue cancer, acting together or in a separate way.
