Abstract

The study of psychotherapeutic expertise could contribute to the understanding of therapist effects as well as to the improvement of methods of therapist training. However, there are several problems in this ?eld that limit its progress, for example, its relevance, conceptual delimitation, theoretical-empirical foundation, research designs, and the political consequences of the results. The aim of this article is to describe these challenges and propose guidelines to overcome them in future research.
