Abstract

MISERACHS-GARCIA, S; MESA-TOLEDO, E; ARRUGA-GINEBREDA, J  and  CASTILLO-CAMPILLO, L. Neuroretinopathy associated with use of interferon. Arch Soc Esp Oftalmol [online]. 2005, vol.80, n.9, pp.533-535. ISSN 0365-6691.

Clinical case: A 46-year-old man, treated with peginterferon alpha 2-b and ribavirin for hepatitis C, experienced progressive painless blurring of vision in his left eye over a period of 4 days. Fundoscopy revealed pale temporal segmental edema of the optic disc and retina. Ocular examination and blood tests ruled out other disorders which could explain the visual disturbance. Discussion: The patient was diagnosed with an ischemic neuroretinopathy associated with interferon but, due to a favourable visual outcome, the treatment was not discontinued.

Keywords : Ischemic neuroretinopathy; interferon.
