Abstract

RAMIREZ, O. M.; NOVO TORRES, A.  and  VOLPE, Ch. R.. The beautiful eye. Cir. plást. iberolatinoam. [online]. 2007, vol.33, n.2, pp.079-090. ISSN 1989-2055.

As aesthetic surgeons we are always striving to achieve beautiful results that are pleasurable to the senses. This is particularly certain in the land of the periorbital rejuvenation. According to the statistics of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, aesthetic blepharoplasty is one of the procedures most commonly performed and goes in increase its so much frequency in men as in women. Successful periorbital rejuvenation should restore the patient"s inner sense of beauty and youthfulness as well as provide an outward appearance that is ‘aesthetic" or pleasurable to the senses. To accomplish this lofty goal, the aesthetic surgeon must strive to create "the beautiful eye". This requires a clear understanding of facial beauty or aesthetics . Investigators have demonstrated that perception of the attractiveness or beauty of an individual face is relatively consistent between independent observers, challenging the popular adage that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." We present an updating of the theme and an extensive iconography. The information provided in this chapter, culled from the literature and years of clinical experience, should allow the reader to develop an improved aesthetic sensibility as applied to the periorbital rejuvenation and improved to obtain optimum results.
