Abstract

MARTINEZ-CARPIO, P.A.  and  TRELLES, M.A.. Laser and photonics in Plastic Surgery in Spain and Latinamerica: Historical background, current applications and proyects of inmediate development. Cir. plást. iberolatinoam. [online]. 2010, vol.36, n.1, pp.59-78. ISSN 1989-2055.

Modern society values and demands laser treatment above other therapeutical options. In Plastic Surgery, phototherapy treatments and lasers are used on a day to day basis against the broad amalgam of signs of aging skin. Sometimes they are also used as an advantageous instrument in incisional, aesthetic, oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery. In this review, we offer an eclectic overview of the current possibilities for laser applications in Plastic Surgery, defining a model in which the surgeon can integrate all of the available offer in Medical Photonics and Laser Surgery not merely based on the use of laser. We highlight the role of the Spanish Society of Medical Surgical Laser as a link between Europe and Latinamerica in research, teaching and assistance in this field.
