Abstract
GOMEZ MARTIN, C.; FONSECA VALERO, R. and GALAN FAJARDO, J.M.. Use of botulinum toxin to improve the functionality and expression of the lip in long-term facial palsy. Cir. plást. iberolatinoam. [online]. 2010, vol.36, n.2, pp.175-178. ISSN 1989-2055.
Paralysis of the marginal branch of the facial nerve in the context of a long-term facial paralysis, produces an aesthetic and functional deformity that can be improved with botulinum toxin injection. We use this technique in 2 patients who achieved almost immediate results in terms of oral opening, oral expression and continence. Botulinum toxin injection can be used in elderly patients with multiple previous operations who accept this non-invasive procedure, improving their selfesteem and their quality of life.
Keywords : Depressor labi inferioris; Botulinum toxin; Facial reanimation.
