Abstract

Tumors of the head and neck are a heterogeneous group; neurofibromas may arise from any nerve regardless of location, including intracranial or peripheral nerves, and are divided into 4 types. Solitary neurofibromas are tumors basically confined to a location and spontaneous with no clinical manifestation. Anatomically, neck neurofibromas are relatively rare, with a slow and painless growth. We report the case of a 41 age male patient, referred to our clinic for presenting with a giant solitary neurofibroma of 30 years evolution at the left base of neck region, 10 cm in diameter, with central ulceration, intermittent bleeding, and adhered to deep planes. It was treated previously 3 times with partial resections, and covered with an acromial flap. Complete resection of the tumor and immediate reconstruction with an anterolateral thigh flap was done, with aesthetic and functional improvement of the cervical area and without complications.
