Therapeutic vaccines have shown to be among the best practical approaches of immune prevention against the progression of a wide variety of diseases, including cancer. We present in this work the main vaccination modalities that have been evaluated in clinical trials and showed antitumoral effect. Although there are many phase III trials with encouraging results, the use of vaccines for melanoma therapy is still in an experimental phase and its effectiveness remains to be established.
