Pregnancy is a condition included in the protective action of Social Security. In the province of Alicante, during the period 2008-2012 the number of contributor women has decreased by a 9.04%, the number of births by a 17.4% and maternity benefits by a 23.86%. The total temporary disability has decreased from January 2012 to January 2013 more than a 20% and that due to threat of abortion a 4.4%. The protection of risk in pregnancy, which is considered professional contingency in Alicante, has increased a 155% from 2008 to 2012 because it is more economically advantageous protection for women.
