Abstract

SIRGO GRANDA, Patricia. New perspectives for Occupational Health in a public and private setting. Med. segur. trab. [online]. 2016, vol.62, n.244, pp.178-187. ISSN 1989-7790.

The Health Monitoring (occupational health) nowadays is being isolated from the rest of the medical specialities in the current health system. It mainly takes place within the private sector, depending on the contracting criteria applied by the corporation and becoming just another service provided to companies. It is put into daily practice as a service that must meet the minimum requirements in the current labour legislation. Although such labour legislation focuses on the worker's health protection, the worker has minimum power of decision. Due to its preventive nature the Occupational Health, through health screening and epidemiological monitoring is considered to be an important tool for early detection of occupational pathology and of primary prevention. This article is intended to defend the importance of occupational health, as well as supporting its use in new areas as a protection tool for workers, companies and the health system.
