This paper reviews the state-of-the-art of scientific literature on the detection of malingered pain in a medico-legal setting. Based on Bianchini, Greve & Glynn (2005), criteria for detecting malingered pain-related disability, medical and psychological assessment strategies and procedures within a multidimensional framework are addressed, including evidence of external benefits and physical (medical), neuropsychological, and self-report convergent data for the diagnostic of malingering.
