Abstract

CRESPO, María  and  GOMEZ, Mª Mar. Posttraumatic Stress Assessment: Introducing the Global Assessment of Posttraumatic Stress Questionnaire. Clínica y Salud [online]. 2012, vol.23, n.1, pp.25-41. ISSN 2174-0550.

The diagnosis of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) has been highly controversial ever since its inclusion in diagnostic classification systems. Its assessment has also proved troublesome. Up until now, the diagnosis of PTSD has relied essentially on structured interviews, which are highly demanding both in terms of time and effort, and are not very helpful in certain services and settings. Furthermore, the available self-report measures have important limitations. The present paper introduces a new self-report instrument for assessment of posttraumatic stress in adults, the Global Assessment of Posttraumatic Stress Questionnaire. This has the following features: it considers all the diagnostic criteria of the DSM-IV-TR; it establishes the relationship between the actual symptoms and the traumatic event; it is validated in Spanish people who have been victims of different types of traumatic events; and it is brief and easy in its application. The paper includes the description of the instrument´s elaboration process, of its structure and format, and its psychometrics.

Keywords : Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PSD); assessment; diagnosis.
