Abstract

The cough is a defense mechanism that allows to thin out the airway of secretions and noxious substances. It can take place for voluntary reflex mechanism or, more frequently, involuntary. The causes are multiple and oneself case can be due simultaneously to diverse reasons.  The biggest income diagnosis in this symptom is gotten with a good examination and physical exploration. The invasive complementary tests do not overcome a complete clinical history, so their indiscriminate use is dissuaded.  The cough is a very frequent consultation reason in Primary Health Care, and often the guide symptom, like in the case that we present.
