Abstract

SALAS IGLESIAS, Manuel Jesús. Birth nursing care in Andalucia: childbirth agents, technologies, procedures and theoretical-methodological foundations across the 1901-1902 survey of the Ateneo de Madrid cultural club. Index Enferm [online]. 2004, vol.13, n.44-45, pp.62-66. ISSN 1699-5988.

The Moral and Political Sciences section of the "Ateneo de Madrid" cultural club promoted in 1901 a great survey relative to popular customs of birth, marriage and death in Spain. This document is outlined as an interesting source of critical analysis for the nursing History, since it´s consubstantial to the vital cycle a universal Care demand. This way, one of the paragraphs relating to the birth, recounts of explicit way the childbirth agents. The present analysis tries to reveal relating information to birth nursing care in Andalucia at the end of the 19th century and principles of the 20th century, examining to its agents, procedures and theoretical - practical foundations. On the other hand, we chase to find in the nursing History this speciality to the service of the discipline, that allows us to define the abstract dimension of the Care concept.
