Abstract

This article presents the program Caring for Caregivers, created by Universidad Nacional de Colombia. School of nursing, Chronic Patient Academic Group to strengthen the care of relative’s caregivers of people with chronic disease. It uses an investigative process that proven its effectiveness.   The program was developed in answer of identified needs in different cities of Colombia and different countries of Latin America, where there were a deficient caring ability of relative’s caregivers of people with chronic disease.  Concomitant with the responsibility of to be the main caregiver of a relative in this situation. This program is based in the theoretical fundamentals of Ngozy Nkongo: the knowledge, the courage and the patience. 280 family caregivers of people with chronic disease of Bogotá and their surroundings were united to the program of School of Nursing at Universidad Nacional de Colombia. They were contacted through institutions of health, health providing Companies, health Centers and Associations that work with chronic disease persons or sending by other users that have participated in this program.
