Abstract

This manuscript is a scientific literature review related to the hysterectomy and its influence on the experience of sexuality. Methodology: The revision was carried out at the databases Cinahl, Cochrane, Cuiden, Dedalus/Usp, Lilacs, Medline, Capes Portal and Sexuality Portal, of the period between 1996 and 2005. Results: Twenty seven manuscripts were identified and their contents are related to the clinical, psychosocial, educational and sexual dimensions of the hysterectomy. The domain of clinical aspects of the hysterectomy, an adequate therapeutic relationship between professionals and women, the realization of systematized orientations and the culturally contextualized health care for woman submitted to the hysterectomy are the main aspects of the researcher´s recommendations.
