Abstract

Objective: Describing the meaning of rejecting nursing care for patients. Methodology: Research study with phenomenological focus carried out in Medellín, Colombia from march 2008 to April 2009 with twelve mature people among 27 and 54 years who were hospitalized. The interview in depth was used for gathering of information. The data were analyzed according to the outline proposed by Cohen, Kahan and Steeves. Results: Nurses absence at patient's bedside and the lack of interaction during care action lead to mistrust and rejection. Discussion: Acceptance, satisfaction and patients' treatment adherence are influenced by nurse patient relationship. Conclusion: Nursing care depends on nurses closeness to patients.
