The lack of knowledge and training of professionals in addiction can impact the quality of care for these patients. The aim of this review is analyze the scientific evidence in substance-related disorders and possible strategies to improve care for these patients. We conducted a literature review depth during 2010-2011 in PubMed, IME, Cochrane, CINAHL, Cuiden, EBSCOhost, Ibecs and Psicodoc. The outcome of this review was obtained scientific evidence on the influence of training and knowledge of drug addiction in health professionals in the quality of care provided. Reviewed scientific evidence does not provide clear conclusions about the type of training interventions in drug addiction. Despite this, most of the authors consider that the training and knowledge undergraduate or graduate or experience is a key to changing attitudes towards drug-dependent patients.
