Introduction: The analysis of citations reflects the development of the scientific communication processes at the scientific disciplines. The nursing scientific knowledge produced in the Iberoamerican Scientific Area (ECI) has grown exponentially, and its consumption is increasing. Objective: To analyze the consumption and impact of nursing knowledge produced during 2012 by nurses of ECI. Methodology: A bibliometric analysis of scientific production published in 37 nursing journals of ECI in 2012, from the journals indexed in the database CUIDEN. Results: 2736 articles published, with 53451 citations were included. The Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem was the most consumed journal in 2012. While the journal with major Repercusión Inmediata CUIDEN (RIC) was Escola Anna Nery Revista de Enfermagem. Discussion: The behavior of the indicators of production, consumption and impact of the source journals in 2012 shows some changes from the previous analysis, and corroborate the scientific evolution of the nursing discipline.
