Abstract
RUBIANO MESA, Yurian Lida and MUNEVAR TORRES, Rosa Yolanda. When HIV gets in the way of pregnancy: pain, uncertainty and fears. Index Enferm [online]. 2016, vol.25, n.3, pp.211-214. ISSN 1699-5988.
For a woman, to be diagnosed with HIV during pregnancy is a traumatic event, turning a happy and desired event into one medicalized, full of pain and distress. Also, it encloses her into a sea of uncertainty for her future and her baby's. This is the biographical account of a young woman who describes her experiences while being diagnosed with HIV at her first pregnancy. As of then, her narrative describes discrimination and stigmatization by health professionals, her daily fight to tolerate medications, and her fear for her baby daughter's health. The disease implications in her life as woman and mother also emerge in her account, as well as her faith in God, her mother's health and her love for her baby daughter as supports to confront HIV.
