Abstract

Objective: To identify the methodological characteristics of the development and validation studies of self-applied tools for measurement of attitudes, experiences and satisfaction with breastfeeding. Methods: Integrative literature review by searching the CUIDEN, MEDLINE, SCOPUS and CINAHL database using the terms "Validation" and "Breastfeeding". Studies that met the inclusion criteria were assessed for methodological rigor before being selected for the review. Results: The instruments construction was based on literature review, theory and existing tools items reformulation. The content validation is given by experts evaluation. Psychometric tests performed varied between studies. Conclusions: There are many methods used to validate measurement instruments, it is up to researchers choose the most suitable for your purposes from the users responsibility to ensure a quality tool.
