Abstract
REGAIRA MARTINEZ, Elena and VAZQUEZ CALATAYUD, Mónica. Use of information and communication technologies in nursing. Index Enferm [online]. 2020, vol.29, n.4, pp.220-224. Epub Nov 01, 2021. ISSN 1699-5988.
Objective:
To describe the use of ICT by nursing professionals.
Methods:
Cross-sectional descriptive study, through a self-administered survey based on bibliography, was carried out. This instrument measures the nursing professionals’ ICT use, which consists of 14 closed questions and two open ones.
Results:
The response rate was 25.7% (264/1.026). 86% used a mobile phone to connect to the internet. Electronic databases (41%) and virtual library (27%) were the least used digital tools. Age was a determining factor of the level of knowledge and the ICT’s use (rho = -0.413; p = 0.000).
Conclusions:
This study has provided evidence on the not very widespread use of ICT among nursing professionals and its decline with age, motivated by the lack of knowledge and training. This knowledge will allow designing educational and management strategies for the appropriate implementation of ICT.
