Abstract

MONGIOVI, Vita Guimarães et al. Homophobia in the school: social Representations of adolescents. Index Enferm [online]. 2021, vol.30, n.3, pp.214-218.  Epub June 06, 2022. ISSN 1699-5988.

Objective:

To analyze the social representations of adolescents on homophobia in the school context through an educational intervention.

Methods:

An action-research was carried out with 36 adolescents, students from the 1st year of high school, being 23 female and 13 male. Data were collected through focus groups, with textual data processed in the Iramuteq software and analyzed in the Theory of Social Representations.

Results:

Homophobia obtained social representations of violence of a psychological nature, anchored in a matrix of heterosexuality and aimed at dissenting gender binarism.

Conclusions:

Health education activities in the school about sexual diversity enable the deconstruction of paradigms about sexuality and the construction of social representations with an emphasis on respect for sexual diversity and citizenship, contributing to the promotion of the health of adolescents and to a healthy school setting.
