Abstract

CHAVERRI FIERRO, Daniel et al. Dystrophic calcification in leg ulcers. Gerokomos [online]. 2011, vol.22, n.3, pp.126-130. ISSN 1134-928X.  https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/S1134-928X2011000300007.

The pathological calcification known as an abnormal deposit of calcium salts into the tissues is a frequent process that we can find in several well known pathological situations as hypercalcaemia, renal insufficiency, hyperthyroidism or heart valve disease. However, this phenomenon is still a great unknown in the chronic wounds attending to the few existing literature. In this article we analyze this process in detail and we show our experience in this so infrequent situation in patients with chronic leg ulcers.

Keywords : Dystrophic calcification; pathological calcification; chronic wounds; subcutaneous calcification; leg ulcer.
