Abstract

PARRA-ANGUITA, Laura  and  PANCORBO-HIDALGO, Pedro L.. Clinical practice guidelines for Alzheimer's disease and other dementias: a literature review. Gerokomos [online]. 2013, vol.24, n.4, pp.152-157. ISSN 1134-928X.  https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/S1134-928X2013000400002.

Introduction: Alzheimer's disease is the most frequent dementia in Spain and its incidence increases with age. In recent years a number of clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) have been developed to guide treatment and care decisions about this disease. Objetives: to identify the guidelines for Alzheimer's disease care published in Spanish. Methods: a review of literature and sources on the Internet. Results: we have identified nine GPC on care for people with Alzheimer's disease published between 2002 and 2011. We analyzed the development process, the content of the guidelines and their clinical recommendations. Discussion: it is noted that there is no homogeneity in the guidelines, being difficult to access them by professionals. Two of the guidelines stand out as being the most comprehensive both in content and in structure and development. These are the Canarian Health Service guideline and the Ministry of Science and Innovation guideline; the latter being the most updated (2011) and based on scientific evidence.

Keywords : Dementia; Alzheimer's disease; clinical practice guideline; recommendations.
