Abstract

Background: Chronic wounds is a public health problem that has affected and affects both patients and caregivers throughout history and their care is valued mainly by nurses. The creation of specialized units in the care of these injuries must be accompanied by the concept of leadership formed by the nurse, along with a multidisciplinary team that to involve the whole process. Objectives: Describe the experience and concerns of national and international nurses coordinators of Wound Units and understand the leadership of a nurse in the multidisciplinary team. Methods: Descriptive phenomenological qualitative study with semi-structured interviews and data analysis through coding, categorization and saturation data using the Atlas-ti 7.0 software. Results: Individual, group/collective, patient/client: 25 codes and 6 categories grouped into 3 main topics were obtained. Conclusions: Nursing is qualified to lead Wound Units given their competence, always working within a multidisciplinary team and providing a holistic view of the patient to achieve adequate approach to prevention and / or treatment of such injuries.
