Abstract

Objective:

To analyze the association between lifestyle related to the risk of cardiovascular disease and sociodemographic and clinical factors in elderly.

Methodology:

Cross-sectional study conducted with 100 elderly in basic health units in a city in northeastern Brazil. It’s used an interview script and physical examination, applied from March to July 2015. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.

Results:

The lifestyle and sociodemographic and clinical factors presenting statistical associations were: sex with smoking habits and alcohol; diabetes mellitus and hypertension with the desire to control the disease; alteration in blood pressure with physical activity and desire to control the disease.

Conclusion:

The lifestyle of the elderly population related to the risk of cardiovascular disease may suffer influences of socio-demographic and clinical factors. These findings contribute to the management of nursing actions in preventing cardiovascular risks through promoting healthy lifestyles.
