Abstract
JAEN-PEREZ, Javier; BLAZQUEZ-NAVARRO, Gregoria and HERRERA-NIETO, María Josefa. Would I like to be a geriatric specialist nurse?. Educational units' influence on undergraduate nursing students from universities of Albacete and Jaen. Gerokomos [online]. 2020, vol.31, n.1, pp.20-25. Epub June 15, 2020. ISSN 1134-928X.
As the Spanish population is getting older and the Geriatric specialty of Nursing is developing in a slow and varied way among the autonomous regions of the country, the researches ask themselves: are the Educational Units of the Geriatric specialty of Nursing having any current influence on the undergraduate students’ knowledge and expectations about this Nursing specialty?
This main objective is set: finding out if the undergraduate students of Nursing are better informed about the specialty of Geriatric Nursing because of the working of an Educational Unit established at the same city where they are studying.
The required methodology is designed for measuring and describing the answers of two undergraduate student populations: one of them has an Educational Unit established at the same city and the other one has not (quantitative cross-descriptive design). The main result that has been found out is that the student population located on a city where an Educational Unit is working is better informed about the Geriatric specialty and their students are more likely to study this specialty. The researchers conclude that the Educational Units creation is really important not only for studying the specialty but for the expectations that they produce at the same time too.
