Abstract

PEREZ, M; HERRERA, A; MORENO, S  and  MORENO, F. Dental age estimate through six radiographic methods in a group of African descent and Caucasoid mestizos. Cuad. med. forense [online]. 2016, vol.22, n.3-4, pp.81-92. ISSN 1988-611X.

The objective for this study was to estimate the dental age through six radiographic methods in two Colombian ethnic groups (Afro-descendent and mixed Caucasoid) and determine which method more accurately approximates the chronological age. For this, descriptive transversal quantitative study to estimated dental age through six methods (Logan & Kronfeld; Schour & Massler; Moorrees, Fanning & Hunt; Demirjian, Goldstein & Tanner; Ubelaker & Smith) was made. The coefficient of interclass correlation and the lineal simple regression model determine that the methods Logan & Kronfeld, Demirjian, Goldstein & Tanner, and Schour & Massler, contain the best predictors of the chronological age (p <0.001). In conclusion, all radiographic methods can estimate the chronological age from age through dental radiographs. Also, it was determined that there is a bilateral symmetry, that there is no sexual dimorphism and that there are no differences between both ethnical groups in the development process and dental eruption.
