Abstract

GONZALEZ LAGUNAS, Javier; HUETO MADRID, Juan Antonio  and  RASPALL MARTIN, Guillermo. Surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion. RCOE [online]. 2002, vol.7, n.6, pp.617-625. ISSN 1138-123X.

Surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion is a major ambulatory surgical technique that allows an efficient and safe correction of maxillary collapse. We present the experience of the authors with a technique consisting in a lateral corticotomy of the maxilla together with a midpalatal osteotomy performed through the interincisal space. We present a review of other surgical options, results on stability and an evaluation of complications presented in the literature.

Keywords : Palatal expansion; Maxillary osteotomy.
