Abstract

VILAS-BOAS SOUSA, Ana; HERNANDEZ-ARRIAGA, Marcela; ASIN-LLORCA, Francisco  and  ESCUIN HENAR, Tomás J. Orbital prosthesis: A clinical case report. RCOE [online]. 2003, vol.8, n.5, pp.553-561. ISSN 1138-123X.

Maxillofacial prosthetics refer to all artificial devices that restore an absent part of the face due to cancer, trauma or as a result of a congenital anomaly. The objective of this article is to expose the final rehabilitation of a clinical case treated with a flexible orbital prosthesis in a female patient whose cause of tissue loss was cancer. These prostheses are the most difficult to perform with good results, because they try to reconstruct a mobile organ with a non-mobile device. Maxillofacial prostheses increase the patient’s quality of life and helps boost his/her confidence. Patients who have been rehabilitated in such a way are ready to be integrated again in society.

Keywords : Orbital prostheses; Silicone; Ocular prostheses.
