Abstract

CLERIES, Xavier; NADAL, Juli de  and  BRANDA, Luis. Teaching communication to medical undergraduates: About a seminar for university teachers. Educ. méd. [online]. 2006, vol.9, n.1, pp.02-05. ISSN 1575-1813.

Citizens’ expectations and scientific finds about the effects of communication on clinical outcomes determine the need to integrate communication dimension on undergraduate medical education. In order to achieve this, a Seminar was carried out at the Institut d’Estudis de la Salut for Medicine teachers from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. According to participant’s opinion, the experience was successful. It is necessary to identify difficulties about the implementation of communicational skills at the undergraduate curriculum. We hope that this kind of activities can improve communication skills on undergraduate medical education. The medical schools in Spain lack the tradition to consider communication as a core professional skill.
