The aim of this study was to establish a psychological characterization in professionals Costa Rica first division soccer and basketball players. Methodology: two hundred and forty players were recluted for this study (140 soccer players and 99 basketball players. The "Cuestionario de Características Psicológicas relacionadas con el Rendimiento" (CPRD) and the Performance Classification Questionnaire (PCQ) were aplied. Results: the results showed averages that suggest the need of work on the development of psychological skills, particularly in the management of stress coping mechanism during competition. These results revealed a particularly stressful situation for the athlete when other people evaluate them, especially when it comes from an important person for the athlete. Closely related to the issue of psychological skills comes the need to work on improve mental skills to enhance the athletes talent development. Conclusions: further investment of time is required in sport psychological work, such as determining the athlete squeeze the maximum factor.
