Abstract

NAVARRO-LEIS, Manuela  and  LOPEZ HERNANDEZ-ARDIETA, Marcos. Cognitive behavioral therapies for the treatment of personality disorders. Acción psicol. [online]. 2013, vol.10, n.1, pp.33-44. ISSN 2255-1271.  https://dx.doi.org/10.5944/ap.10.1.7031.

Many treatments have been proposed for addressing psychological personality disorders, performing a variety of studies to test the effectiveness thereof. Until now, there isn´t a treatment empirically established as effective, but it is shown that cognitive behavioral and behavioral treatments are probably effective for treating these disorders, more specifically for the borderline personality disorder. The aim of this paper is to provide a theoretical and empirical review of the three treatment models currently considered more effective: Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Functional Analytic Psychotherapy, included within the third wave of behavior therapies.

Keywords : Personality disorder; borderline personality disorder; cognitive behavioral therapy; dialectical behavioral therapy; acceptance and commitment therapy; functional analytic psychotherapy; third wave of behavior therapies.
